Who We Are
The Carthage/Wilna Fire District consists of five publicly-elected fire commissioners, an appointed secretary/treasurer. The commissioners serve a five year, unpaid term. The secretary/treasurer is appointed each year by the commissioners.
As a political subdivision of New York State, the District has numerous legal responsibilities including budget planning and the levying of taxes. Additionally, the District is responsible for purchasing and maintaining fire equipment and apparatus, much of which is mandated by New York State, as well as maintaining the upkeep for the facilities, all for the purpose of providing essential fire protection of life and property to the residents of the Carthage/Wilna Fire District area.
